Starting Point
This case involved a man in his 50s experiencing longstanding fatigue, disrupted sleep, and concerns about his overall health and energy levels.
He described feeling persistently tired for many years, with poor sleep quality, early morning waking, and frequent daytime fatigue. There were also concerns around possible liver and heart health issues, alongside intermittent awareness of his heartbeat, muscle fatigue with activity, and episodes of swelling or puffiness.
He had experienced significant stressors over recent years, including the loss of a close family member, while also managing the demands of running his own business.
Although stress was not initially identified as a major concern by the patient himself, the overall pattern of symptoms suggested that long-term physiological stress may have been contributing to fatigue, sleep disruption, and metabolic strain.
Family history also included cardiovascular disease and high cholesterol.

Further investigation provided reassurance that heart, kidney, and inflammatory markers were within normal ranges. Blood testing did, however, identify patterns consistent with metabolic strain, including elevated creatine kinase (CK), blood sugar, and triglyceride levels.
