Dr Ala Farah
Co-Founder and Medical Director
Dr Ala Farah is a General Practitioner with a special interest in metabolic health, hormonal health, lifestyle medicine, and integrative care.
She brings over 18 years of clinical experience, combining medical expertise with a thoughtful, whole-person approach to care.
-
Dr Ala has worked across hospital medicine, public health, and general practice, with many years supporting patients in general practice and community-based care.
She has completed postgraduate training in public health, women’s health, obesity medicine, and lifestyle medicine, and continues to expand her expertise through ongoing training in integrative medicine.
Her experience across different settings allows her to see the bigger picture - helping make sense of how different factors come together to shape a person’s health over time.
-
Her work centres around metabolic health, hormonal health, and lifestyle medicine.
She supports patients in understanding the underlying drivers of their symptoms - whether related to hormones, metabolism, nutrition, stress, or lifestyle - with a focus on creating clear, structured, and sustainable plans.
-
Her approach is shaped by both clinical experience and a deep understanding of how complex and personal health journeys can be.
Having navigated her own hormonal health challenges, including PCOS and vestibular migraines, she understands how overwhelming it can feel when symptoms are not fully explained.
Consultations are centred around listening, connection, and clarity - creating a space where patients feel heard, supported, and guided through their next steps.
-
Dr Ala is the founder of Farah Health, where she developed a model of care focused on looking beyond symptoms and supporting the whole person.
Her work at Cellara reflects this same philosophy - bringing together clinical care, thoughtful assessment, and a more integrated approach to health.
At the heart of her work is a desire to create a space that feels calm, considered, and supportive - a space she once needed herself.
-
Originally from Sudan and raised in Dubai, Dr Ala has called New Zealand home for over 17 years.
She identifies as a proud Sudanese and North African wahine, with a strong connection to culture, community, and the people she serves.
Her background continues to shape how she relates to patients, bringing a sense of understanding, openness, and respect into her work.
-
Outside of her clinical work, Ala is a mother to three boys and a wife to her husband Azeem, who is also a GP.
She enjoys spending time with family and friends, travelling, and being involved in community initiatives and events.
Her experiences outside of medicine continue to influence how she shows up for her patients - with empathy, understanding, and a focus on real-life, practical care.
